What Is The Normal Range For Diastolic Blood Pressure

Diastolic blood pressure is an auxiliary test used to check if blood pressure is normal. Diastolic blood pressure is when the heart relaxes, when the arterial blood vessels recoil elastically, the resulting pressure is called diastolic blood pressure, also known as low pressure. This examination can determine the location of the lesion and the corresponding symptoms.

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Abnormal results: According to the World Health Organization, hypertension can be diagnosed when diastolic blood pressure is ≥ 95 mmHg (12.6 kPa) in adults. In between, it is called borderline hypertension. Many young and middle-aged people, due to high pressure on work exertion, less activity; measured blood pressure systolic blood pressure is normal, diastolic blood pressure is higher than 90 mm Hg, and sometimes the pulse pressure difference is very close, such as: 130/110 mm Hg, the patient subjectively feels dizziness, chest tightness discomfort. This is due to increased sympathetic activity and increased peripheral vascular resistance. It is an early stage of hypertension.

People to be examined: routine physical examination content, vascular abnormalities.

INSPECTION METHOD

  1. The patient should remain quiet and rest for more than five minutes before testing.
  2. remove the sleeve of the measured limb to make the blood circulation unobstructed (generally the right upper limb).
  3. The elbow should be at the same level as the heart, about as high as the fourth costal cartilage in the sitting position, as high as the midaxillary line in the recumbent position, and abducted 450C
  4. The cuff bandwidth of sphygmomanometer is 12-14 cm. During the measurement, the lower edge of cuff shall be 2-3 cm away from the transverse striation of elbow curve. All the air in the air bag is released, of which the part is opposite to the radial artery, bound to the upper arm, and the tightness is appropriate. The stethoscope chest piece should not be pressed under the cuff, but placed on the brachial artery at the antecubital fossa at the lower edge of the cuff. Inflate the cuff until the palpation limb artery or radial pulse disappears, then slowly release the air in the cuff by increasing the mercury column by 20-30 mmHg, so that the mercury column slowly drops (preferably 2 mm/s), so as to correctly read the result. The pressure value shown in the first sound is systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure is determined as the pressure value when the arterial sound disappears.

Diastolic pressure refers to the pressure caused by elastic recoil of arterial vessels when the human heart relaxes, which is called diastolic pressure or low pressure. Diastolic blood pressure in normal adults is 60-90 mmHg.
